Bollywood Book Tag – SRK Edition (Original)

So if you’ve been around for a little while, you probably know I love Bollywood movies, especially ones that involve Shah Rukh Khan. So a few days ago, I was talking to one of my best friends in real life who blogs over @ Empire of Starlight and we decided to create our own Bollywood book tags. Check out her Bollywood Book Tag: Song Edition (she doesn’t post often so it’s kind of a miracle when she does).

Anyway, on to my very own, Bollywood Book Tag – SRK Edition.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge – Favorite Classic

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Lizzie Bennett is the perfect protagonist, she’s smart and witty and always unapologetically herself.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai – Favorite Romance

I am not big into romance? But out of the few I’ve read, I’d definitely have to pick The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon. Natasha and Daniel are a great pair and I was rooting for them from the first chapter.

kabhi-khushi-kabhie-gham_1000x563

Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham – Great in All Aspects

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Need I say more? Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom are both wonderful beyond wonderful books and have ruined YA Fantasy for me.

kkl_1480336075_725x725

Kal Ho Naa Ho – Favorite Love Triangle

Obviously The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. Will, Jem and Tessa are the ultimate love triangle. All three of them love and care for each other. I love their individual relationships as well as them as a group.

chak-de-india-poster

Chak De India – Favorite Girl Power Book

YA is pretty good at publishing girl power books so there are lots to choose from. I’m going to say An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. I think this series is very good at highlighting all the ways a girl can be powerful. Helene is a trained fighter, Laia is more patient and intelligent, the Commandant is ruthless and unforgiving, Izzy is kind and loyal.

Dilwale – Biggest Disappointment

I’ve had quite a few disappointments, especially from book that are superhyped but I didn’t end up liking. But there are two books that have disappointed me beyond measure: Allegiant by Veronica Roth and Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan. I expected so much more from the ending of both of those series but alas, it didn’t work out.

Main Hoon Na – Favorite Action Book

A recent favorite would be A Gathering of Shadows by V.E Schwab. I love, love LOVE magical duels and sword fights, especially magical dueling contests.

my-name-is-khan-wallpaper

My Name is Khan – Favorite Controversial Book

A book that covers a controversial topic is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas which talks about the Black Lives Matter campaign. THUG is probably the best book I’ve read all year and I encourage everyone to read it if you haven’t already.

Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

Mid Year Freak Out Tag

Aww, look at me doing back to back tags! This one is perfect because it’s the middle of the year and am I freaking out about books I haven’t read yet? Yes, I sure am. I was tagged by the great and wonderful Azia @ The Uncharted World. Go check out her blog if you don’t follow her!

1. Best Books You’ve Read So Far in 2017?

Okay, I’ve read some really good books so far this year and there’s no way I’m picking one.

Lord of Shadows and The Shades of Magic trilogy especially I loved to death and I’m still not over the endings.

2. Best Sequel of 2017 So Far

Again, Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare, sequel to Lady Midnight. I will be talking about this book until the next one comes out TWO YEARS later so prepare yourselves (I’ve literally been bringing this up everyday, it’s impressive). I was able to read an early copy of Now I Risethe second book to And I Darkenand that is also fantastic.

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But You Want To

23308087

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh. This book has been sitting on my shelf for a month now and I haven’t gotten to it yet but I really want to!

4. Most Anticipated Release of the Second Half of 2017?

After watching Wonder Woman last weekend, I’m even more excited for Leigh Bardugo’s Wonder Woman WarbringerThe last book to the Magnus Chase trilogy comes out in October! And new Marie Lu books are always welcome.

5. Biggest Disappointment

30145666

I know, I know, I wish it wasn’t so. I just couldn’t get into The Dark Prophecy unfortunately. I liked it fine but I didn’t love it, hence the disappointment.

6. Biggest Surprise

31952703

Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley. I’m not big into contemporary and I’ve only recenty started reading more contemporary books. I picked up this one because it was fairly short and I was going through a reading slump and it completely took me by surprise. I read this in one sitting until 3:00 AM and I was sobbing by the time it ended.

7. Favorite New Author (Debut or Author To You)

V.E Schwab and her Shades of Magic trilogy which I am now in love with. I have added all of her books to my TBR and will be making my way through them.

8. Newest Fictional Crush

Well, it is no longer Julian Blackthorn I can tell you that. Kell, Rhy and Alucard from Shades of Magic, I love them all so much!

9. Newest Favorite Character

See question above 🙂 But other than those three, I would say Kamala Khan from the Ms. Marvel comics. She’s a high school student who writes fanfiction, comes from a traditional Muslim family, and then gets super powers? How cool is that?

20898019

10. Book That Made You Cry

You know, I cry fairly often when reading sad scenes so it’s not unusual.

Lord of Shadows again, are you surprised? And there has never been an Adam Silvera book that doesn’t make me cry.

11. A Book That Made You Happy

28458598

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. ALL THE FLUFF IT’S SO CUTE! Like I said before, this book is basically a Bollywood movie turned YA book and I’m a sucker for Bollywood movies so I was obligated to love this.

12. Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation You’ve Seen This Year

Can I count Wonder Woman? It was so awesome and inspiring, I loved it! It’s my favorite superhero movie now (granted I’ve only seen five).

13. Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year?

My favorite reviews I write are always the ones that sound like somewhat coherent rants because they always make me laugh when I reread them in a few months. Probably my Lord of Shadows review where I poured my heart out (don’t read it if you haven’t read the book).

14. Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought Or Received This Year?

23447923

The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. I love the cover of this book and I need to start it soon.

15. What Books Do You Need To Read by the End of the Year?

Oh my gosh, I HAVE SO MANY I AM FREAKING OUT. Okay, I will just name the ones that are already out or I have ARCs of: Vicious by V.E Schwab (currently reading), This Savage Song by V.E Schwab, City of Brass by S.K Ali (so excited for this one!), Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken, And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.

I Tag You

(No pressure as always if you don’t want to do it or have already done it).

Burn, Rewrite, Reread: Book Tag

Burn, Rewrite, Reread

It’s been way too long since I’ve done a tag! I was tagged to do the Burn, Rewrite, Reread: Book Tag by the absolutely wonderful Meghan over @ Meghan’s Whimsical Explorations & Reviews back in January (can you tell I’m super punctual?). Go follow her blog if you aren’t already, she’s wonderful!

Rules:

  • Randomly choose 3 books (Tip: Use the “Sort > Random” option on your Goodreads’ Read shelf.).
  • For each group, decide which book to burn, which one to rewrite, and which to reread (a lot like Kiss, Marry, Kill).
  • Repeat until you completed three rounds (or six).

Round 1

Oh wow, this round worked out really well.

Reread: All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill which remains my favorite time travel book to this day. It’s been a while since I read it though so I don’t know if I’ll like it as much now but something tells me I will.

Rewrite: Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan because that ending was a gigantic mess that I would love to clean up.

Burn: Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. Not gonna lie, I binge read these books in sixth grade and adored them at the time but looking back at it, I’m not quite sure why.

Round 2

OHH NOOO, I love all three of these.

Reread: Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys which is my favorite book set during WWII. This book is heart-breaking but also full of hope.

Rewrite: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon mostly because Between Shades of Gray is untouchable. If I rewrote this book, I would just prevent anything bad from happening to Christopher because he’s an angel.

Burn: City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare. I’m not too sad about this one because it’s my least favorite out of The Mortal Instruments series.

Round 3

This round is also easy enough. It’s like Goodreads knew I was doing this tag.

Reread: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K Rowling, is that even a question? It’s my favorite Harry Potter book and I love everything about it.

Rewrite: A Thousand Nights by E.K Johnson. I liked this book well enough but there were some instances I wasn’t a huge fan of.

Burn: Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I never got into this series. I was interested enough to have read the first two books but in the grand scheme of things, I have no qualms about burning it.

I’m only going to do three rounds but this was so much fun!

PREMISE OF DESERT ISLAND DISCS…

You are cast away onto a remote island:

  • You can bring 5 albums, what are they?
  • You can bring ONE book (not including The Bible (or other appropriate religious texts) or The Complete Works of Shakespeare, as they are already provided and NO SERIES), what ONE book is it?
  • You can have one luxury item (it has to be inanimate and can’t help you escape the island), what is it?

Arrow

MY ANSWERS…

Top 5 Albums:

If I’m listening to music that’s not Bollywood, you can be ninety percent sure it’s Pentatonix, Tori Kelly or Disney songs. Pentatonix did an awesome job with their original songs album and I love every one of the songs (if you don’t know who they are, they’re an A Capella band). I’ve been following Tori Kelly for years and I am so happy that she’s been doing so well for herself. I’ve also been obsessed with Ed Sheeran’s X and every one of Demi’s albums.

The Book

One book?? How am I supposed to choose one book? Okay, I guess if I had to pick it would be Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. I wouldn’t want to separate any of my favorite book series and Ender’s Game can stand as a stand alone. It’s also the book I’ve reread the most times and I am not big on rereading books.

The Item

knife I guess I would say a knife because it sounds like a good choice. (I was going to say a sword but I’d probably just end up killing myself). I know a knife doesn’t really count as a luxury item but it would be useful if I want to protect myself or maybe cut some cacti to drink the water.

I TAG YOU

If you’re reading this line, consider yourself tagged. 🙂

3 Facts About Myself

  1. I get overly addicted to TV shows. I always try not to start new shows because I know I wouldn’t get anything else done once I start watching.
  2. My favorite Disney princess is Mulan.
  3. I’m super indecisive and always get really anxious when if I have to make life decisions. It doesn’t even have to be a major decision, just picking what book to read next takes me forever (and then I end up doing eeny meeny miny mo).

Azia’s Questions

1. Do you have a favorite YA trope that you love (or maybe even tolerate) more than others?

This isn’t just related to YA but a general trope I like is happy endings. I love when  the characters’ problems are all solved or at least resolved and you know they will live a nice life from now on. This is actually pretty uncommon in YA since most of the characters go through quite a bit of loss and even though they have resolution, they don’t really have straight up happy endings.

2. How often do you buy books?

Not very often. I usually only buy books that are sequels to series I’m already a fan of so I already know what I’m getting into. The last book I paid money for was the February OwlCrate book Heartless by Marissa Meyer (still haven’t read it).

3. Do you take off the book jackets while you’re reading or do you leave them on?

I take the jacket off because I’m too afraid I’ll ruin the cover. I also stuff my books into my backpack and that can leave dents in the dust jacket if I don’t take it off.

4. Besides WordPress, where do you go to find recommendations for new books?

I get a lot of my recommendations from my friends because most of them are readers too. I don’t think I go anywhere else honestly. There are rare times when I check out books from the library just by reading the synopsis but like I said, rare times.

5. Random Question: If it were possible, which movie (or TV show) would you transport yourself into to be part of the cast?

Okay, I would LOVE to have magical powers but without any responsibility or trying to “use it for the greater good”. So probably something like Wizards of Waverly Place where I can use my magic for mundane things like levitating a book in front of me so I wouldn’t have to hold it or cleaning my room in ten seconds.

Kayla’s Questions

1. Where was the last place you traveled, and when was it?

I don’t know if this counts as “travelling” exactly but I went to visit my family in Bangladesh last summer. I haven’t really been anywhere else since then (unless going to the southern part of Georgia counts as travelling).

2. Tell me a teaser sentence from the book you’re currently reading!

“It took seven years to get the letter right” from Caraval. I like it so far but I don’t love it like I thought I would.

3. What song is stuck in your head right now? (if any)

I’m a huge fan of the DC shows on the CW and the Flash just aired their musical episode and I’m now obsessed with Grant Gustin’s Runnin’ Home To You. I also just saw Beauty and the Beast recently so Belle and Be Our Guest has been playing in my head off and on for the past two weeks.

4. Under what circumstances would you DNF a book?

I’m very picky when it comes to writing styles. I will trudge on if the character is a whiny brat, or the plot is horribly predictable but it’s the writing that gets me. I like that perfect mix of show-and-tell, too much description or too little description bothers me to no end. So if I don’t like the writing, I will most likely DNF the book.

5. Silly: Share your favourite meme or GIF!

I don’t really have a favorite meme or gif so I’ll just add one I find hilarious. (Taken from giphy.com).

My Questions:

  1. What book have you re-read the most and why?
  2. If you had to change your name to a character’s name, who would you pick?
  3. If you could shape shift into any animal, what would you be?
  4. Say you have the power to get rid of a certain item from the world (books, phone, toilet paper, etc), what item would you want to get rid of.
  5. Random (even though most of my questions are already kind of random): You now have 10 chimpanzees as your servants. What would you make them do?

Celebrating the Little Things Tag

celebrating-little-things

It’s been way too long since I did a tag! A giant shout out to Meghan @ Meghan’s Whimsical Explorations & Reviews for tagging me. Thank you Meghan!

Who was your very first follower (if you can find out)? Tag them and give them a shout out!

My first follower was Olivia-Savannah @ Olivia’s Catastrophe back when I had my blog in Blogger. She was also the first person to ever comment on my blog. She’s probably one of the nicest bloggers I’ve ever interacted with and you guys should definitely go check her blog out!

What was the last milestone you reached?

Combining my WordPress and Bloglovin’ followers, I recently reached a 100 followers. THAT’S CRAZY TO ME. Seriously, I cannot believe it. Blogging isn’t about stats but I’m not going to lie and say it doesn’t feel good when people like/comment/follow. It’s the greatest feeling ever so thank you to anyone who’s reading this and to everyone who has ever visited my site.

What was the very first post you posted on your blog? Share it with us!

Oh, reading my first post is cringe-worthy! It was on Blogger and I called it Introduction . (I had originally called it Greetings Muggles but ended up changing it). It was also back when I was a sophomore in high school, knew nothing about blogging or writing or designing or basically anything you need to know as a blogger.

Who was your most recent follower? Tag them and give them a shout out!

My most recent follower was Cali’s Book Camp. Thank you for the follow!

What was the last post you posted and who was the very first person who took their time to click the like button? Give them a shout out!

The last post I posted was Diversity Spotlight Thursday #10 and the first person to like it was Nicole @ Booksinked. Thanks Nicole!

How many months have you been blogging for?

I have been blogging for about 25 months! Except I’ve only been blogging seriously for 18 months. That’s still longer than I had anticipated when I first made my blog and I’m so glad I stayed!

Do you have any bloggers you’re friends with? Give them a shout out.

A pretty good portion of my real-life friends also have blogs. They don’t all have book blogs but it’s crazy we all decided to blog. We were meant to be.

Stellah @ The Little Book Nerd’s Life is all in all one of the best people I know and you guys should definitely go check out her blog. She writes very thoughtful and thorough book reviews and always has great insight. I convinced [forced] another friend (Briah @ Empire of Starlight) to create a blog except, when you make someone start a blog, they’re bound to stop posting (which she did). Another friend, Cindy @ Stranger Things Have Happened, posts little snippets of her life, her rants, advice and whatnot. She pretty much talks about anything and everything and her posts are almost always hilarious. And if you’re currently in college and looking for college-lifestyle bloggers, check out Making My Way and Fiercely Living. They both give great advice and tips on the do’s and don’ts of college life.

And there are so many bloggers who I’ve met in the blogosphere who are absolutely amazing and I’m so glad I’ve decided to be a blogger just so I can interact with your awesomenesses (yay, run-on sentences!). Of course Meghan @ Meghan’s Whimsical Explorations & Reviews.  A few other people on this long list are: Jasmine @ How Useful It Is, Jackie B. @ Death by Tsundoku, Olivia-Savannah @ Olivia’s Catastrophe, Wendy @ What the Log Had to Say.

Wow, this answer was longer than expected.

Who originally created the last meme or tag you participated in? Give them a shout out!

The last meme I posted was Diversity Spotlight Thursdays and it was created by Aimal @ Bookshelves and Paperbacks. It’s a great meme that highlights diverse books.

Have you any social media related to your blog?

I started using Twitter because of my blog and now I love it! And I have a Pinterest though it’s not exactly blog related because I pretty much pin anything I like. Here are all the places you can find me:

Twitter | Goodreads | Bloglovin’ | Pinterest

Last but not least …. just say thanks to all your followers

Thank you!

Seriously! Thank you for reading and liking and commenting, you guys are the bestest of the bestest!
